PWD crews work to repair water main on Ridge Avenue

Philadelphia Water Department crews are working to repair a broken 12-inch water main on Ridge Avenue at Manayunk Avenue in Northwest Philadelphia this morning.

John DiGiulio, spokesman for PWD, said the incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. and Water Department crews were able to turn off the water within the hour. By 9 a.m. the water was cleared from the streets and traffic was moving well around the cones on Ridge Avenue.

As of 10 a.m., DiGiulio said there were no reports of major water damage in nearby homes or businesses but he noted that some water did leak into a few basements in the area. Fifty people are reportedly without water near that intersection.

As crews continue repair work today, one lane of traffic on Ridge Avenue at Manayunk Avenue will be blocked off. Digiulio says repairs should be completed by the end of the day.
