Water Department work to close another stretch of West Allens Lane

Water main work on a new section of West Allens Lane in Mt. Airy is scheduled to start next week.

Beginning Monday, Philadelphia Water Department crews will start construction on a stretch between Bryan Street and Germantown Avenue.

The area will be closed to cars between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the exception of local traffic.

School bus transportation to and from Henry Houston Elementary – located between Cresheim Road and Bryant– will be maintained.

Construction, though, is scheduled to start in front of the school by the first week of June.

Detour signs will be in place throughout the area “as soon as possible,” according to PWD’s website.

Work on this segment will continue into August.

The $2 million project – which runs roughly from Wissahickon Avenue to Germantown Avenue – is scheduled to be finished in 2013.
