Want a free tree? You’ve got three days

Philadelphia has some beautiful parks and green spaces, but way too many neighborhoods with scant vegetation. The city Parks and Recreation Department is working with financial help from Wells Fargo to build up the city’s tree cover, which currently stands at about 20 percent and lags behind other cities like Boston and New York.

More trees improve storm drainage, save energy costs, fight both air and noise pollution, and make every neighborhood look better.

If you’re a resident and property owner in Philadelphia, you can get a tree free, along with training on how to plant and maintain it, but you need to act fast. You must apply by Saturday for trees that will be available the last week of April. You can call 215-683-0217, or apply at this website.
