Video highlights of the Mt. Airy vs. Chestnut Hill (11U) showdown

On Thursday, July 21, 2011. Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill Junior Baseball League (11U) teams met in the 21st Tournament in Roxborough. 11U refers to the 11-year-old player division within the tournament. Both teams were beaten earlier in the week so this game was only about neighborhood pride.

It was a hot night with temperatures still in the 90s at game time, which was 8 p.m. With only one video camera on-hand, videographer Bas Slabbers chose to set the camera in the Mt. Airy dugout. So, this video has the look of a Mt. Airy parent POV. If Bas were a rich man we probably would have had both dugouts covered.

Mt. Airy looked unbeatable

This was a six-inning game. Mt. Airy seemed to be the stronger team. Chestnut Hill’s team couldn’t hit the ball. It was like the Bad News Bears showed up. Mt. Airy outscored Chestnut Hill 10-1 as the game entered the bottom of the 6th inning.

Chestnut Hill stages the ultimate comeback

Chestnut Hill had to make something happen now. Three outs and the game would be over. The momentum swung 180-degrees in this inning. Chestnut Hill’s batters stopped holding back and began an amazing 10 run comeback to win the game 11-10.

NewsWorks wants a rematch. Next time we’ll bring two video cameras.
