US District Judge Joseph Irenas dies at 75
U.S. District Judge Joseph Irenas has died.
Irenas lived in Princeton and worked at the federal courthouse in Camden. He was 75.
The U.S. District Court for New Jersey announced that he died Friday at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he had been taken after a fall caused severe head trauma.
Irenas was born in Newark, graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. He clerked for New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Haydn Proctor and then worked at the law firm McCarter & English from 1966 until he was confirmed as a federal judge in 1992.
He continued to work even as he had regularly underwent kidney dialysis in recent years.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and grown children and grandchildren.
