UPDATE: Off-duty Delaware trooper fatally shoots boyfriend during domestic dispute

Delaware State Police say one of their own was found “severely battered” at a home in Pike Creek Sunday night. They say the injured trooper shot and killed her boyfriend was shot inside the home.

State Police say the female trooper was beaten during a domestic dispute at a home in the 3200-block of Champions Drive. During the attack, the trooper, who has not yet been named by police, was able to get her department issued handgun. She then shot 43-year-old Maurice Ifill of Ownings Mills, Md. He was shot in the upper torso and taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The trooper was also taken to Christiana hosptial with serious injuries. She’s currently in stable condition. She’s an eight year veteran of the Delaware State Police. 

When State Police and New Castle County Police arrived at the home for a report of shots fired, they say they found the woman had been “severely battered.”
