Unsettled weather pattern is back

It’s not the early August forecast that you dream about during bitterly cold winter days.

There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms today, particularly in South Jersey like yesterday, and high temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s. Humidity will also be on the rise, courtesy of a south-southwest wind around 10 mph (slightly stronger gusts this afternoon). The threat of precipitation continues tonight, when temperatures will only drop back to around 70 degrees.

This unsettled pattern continues straight through Friday. The likelihood of showers and thunderstorms increases tomorrow as a weak warm front approaches and passes through. It’s the same story for Friday, although the weather maker will be a weak cold front that moves through by Saturday. Temperatures will edge up both days.

Preliminary, the weekend looks decent, with the chance of showers hanging around Saturday morning and early afternoon before clearing. Sunday appears to be the pick as of now, but let’s talk about it more tomorrow.

BOAT/BEACH: Mainly dry this morning, with the chance of showers or a thunderstorm increasing this afternoon, particularly in the southern areas. Showers and a thunderstorm are now moving across Cape May County, but before the precipitation moved in, Jersey Shore Hurricane News contributor Dana Lambert captured the image featured above in Wildwood Crest. The ocean and air temperature will be about the same today (mid 70s). Relatively calm seas today, topping out about two feet along the beach and out at sea. Low tide along the coast is at 2:29 p.m today in Seaside Heights. There is a low risk of rip currents, but always swim near a lifeguard.
