The University of Delaware has named an interim president to replace outgoing leader Patrick Harker.

Nancy Targett, the current dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment at UD, will take over on July 1 and serve until the school finds a permanent replacement. Targett joined the UD faculty in 1984. Her academic background is in marine ecology.

Harker announced earlier this month that he will leave the university after eight years to head the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

UD also unveiled the search committee that will recruit its next leader. The 15-member body is co-chaired by Terri Kelly, CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates, and Don Puglisi, a professor emeritus of business. It will also include six university trustees, one student, one parent, one dean, and four faculty members.
