University City District unveils ‘The Porch’ as new public space

The light, quick and cheap improvement outside 30th Street Station was unveiled today, staying true to its goal.

The University City District today unveiled “The Porch,” the name citizens gave to the new public space on Market Street meant to make the area outside the transit hub an appealing place to be.

Arts & Culture reporter Peter Crimmins will have more details later today on the space, which the UCD plans to use for programming. For now, it’s a sunny spot on Market Street complete with greenery, umbrellas, tables and chairs, and today balloons. No doubt an improvement on what used to be there: nothing.
