Union launches effort against New Jersey casino expansion

A New York-based trade union is behind a new advertising effort opposing the expansion of casino gambling to North Jersey.

The new Trenton Can’t Be Trusted group said Monday it has launched a 30-second TV spot aimed at defeating the November ballot question.

The ad, backed by New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council, warned that “Trenton political bosses” will use tax proceeds unwisely.

The group’s creation comes after Atlantic City casino workers and the city’s chamber of commerce said last week it would also launch a campaign against expansion.

Another group supported by prospective casino operators in favor of expansion has also started an ad campaign.

Voters face a ballot question on expanding casino gaming to two unspecified locations in North Jersey.
