Unexpected bridge closure has Royersford, Spring City residents unhappy with PennDOT

With the Royersford/Spring City bridge shut down for eight weeks, residents and business owners are having hard time getting around, and they’re a little miffed at PennDOT about it.

PennDOT closed the bridge Monday when workers discovered “advanced deterioration,” but the original planned called for only partial shut-downs during construction and eventually, complete overnight closures.

The unexpected closure is slowing traffic to businesses, the Pottstown Mercury reports, and some owners aren’t happy with the way they say PennDOT has handled notifications.

PennDOT spokeswoman Jenny Robinson says the public has always been aware of plans for the bridge, but the discovery of the deterioration called for immediate action.
