A 54-year-old man was transported to a local hospital yesterday evening after being pulled unconscious from an Ortley Beach pool, police said.

Police and medical units responded to the 400 block of 8th Avenue in Ortley Beach at 6:40 p.m. after receiving a 911 call, said Ralph Stocco, Toms River Police Department spokesman.

“It was reported that he was by the poolside alone for approximately 15 minutes, and when his friends returned, they located him in the pool not breathing,” Stocco said. “They dialed 911, removed him from the pool, and then started CPR.”

Arriving officers continued CPR until paramedics arrived, he added.

The man, who police did not identify, was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for further treatment, the spokesman said. His current condition is unknown.

He owns homes in both Ortley Beach and Wayne, Stocco said.
