Two time NBA All Star Baron Davis is the newest, and most experienced, member of Delaware’s D-League team, the 87ers.

Davis most recently played in the 2011-12 NBA season for the New York Knicks. In 29 games he averaged 6.1 points and 4.7 assists in 20.5 minutes per game. He was selected by the Newark-based 87ers from the available player pool.

“Baron still has much to contribute to the game,” said 87ers General Manager Brandon Williams. “We are excited to play a role as he transitions through the next phase of his successful career.”

Davis was a two-year starter at UCLA and was picked third overall in the 1999 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. The 36-year-old guard is mounting a comeback attempt after tearing his knee while playing for the Knicks in 2012.

Davis will be eligible to make the maximum D-League salary of $25,000. Any NBA team, including the 87ers parent club the Philadelphia 76ers, would be able to sign Davis to a ten-day contract.

The 87ers next home game is 7 p.m. Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark.
