Two PPD officers injured in overnight crash

Two Philadelphia police officers were injured early this morning when their police cruiser slammed into a van in the Parkside section of the city.

The officers were reportedly responding to an incident with their warning lights on.

ABC6 reports that as the vehicle turned off of North 52nd Street, the driver lost control and smashed into a church van parked on the street.

One of the officers was found bleeding from the head. Both reported neck and back pain and were taken to the University of Pennsylvania.

The van that the officers struck belongs to the Greater Bible Way Church. Congregation members from the Greater Bible Way Church and neighboring Greater Bible Way Temple are expecting a visit from the Reverend Jesse Jackson, later this morning.
