Two injured in Manchester crash
A Barnegat husband and wife were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Route 539 in Manchester Tuesday morning, police said.
Daniel Lynch, 74, was driving a 2012 Honda Accord northbound on the roadway near Hegstrom Road when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled several hundred feet before striking several trees and overturning onto its roof shortly after 9:00 a.m., according to police.
Lynch and his wife, Charlene M. Hoverter, 68, were wearing their seat belts during the crash, which caused front air bag deployment, police said. Both were trapped in the vehicle and extricated by the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company
Hoverter complained of pain to her back and chest and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by Whiting Volunteer First Aid, according to police. Lynch complained of pain to his left wrist and chest and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by a New Jersey State Police medevac helicopter for treatment.
EMTs from Quality Medical Transport and paramedics from MONOC provided additional medical treatment.
Members of the Manchester Township Police Patrol Division, Manchester Office of Emergency Management, Whiting Volunteer First Aid, and the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company were at the scene.
Ptl. Douglas P. Higgins of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash.
