Two Delaware County finalists in running for Pa. Teacher of the Year

Two Delaware County teachers are among 12 finalists for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year.

Rose Tree Media School District’s DeAnn Scherer and Nancy Gheysens join finalists from Erie, Susquehanna, Jefferson, Centre, Lebanon, Westmoreland, Berks, Lehigh and Allegheny counties.

“These individuals represent the best-of-the-best Pennsylvania’s public education system has to offer,” Pennsylvania Education Secretary Ron Tomalis said of the finalists.

They were nominated by students, parents, colleagues and members of their community for the work they do in their school, but only one will become the 2013 Teacher of the Year and represent Pennsylvania in the National Teacher of the Year contest.

Tricia Miller, a literacy coach for the Penns Valley Area School District in Centre County, is the 2012 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year.
