Trenton to pay $75K for late death notification

Trenton has agreed to pay $75,000 to settle a lawsuit after it took police 19 months to notify a woman that her daughter was dead.

Linda Ramsey reported her 21-year-old daughter, Amber, missing in February 2006. Trenton police found her body in an abandoned building six months later. The Mercer County Medical Examiner’s report listed the death as an apparent overdose and recorded finding several pieces of identification.

Ramsey didn’t learn of the death until March 2008.

Her attorney, Robin Lord, tells The Times of Trenton the family wanted to put the matter behind them.

The $75,000 represents the city’s portion of a $150,000 settlement. Mercer County, Ewing Township and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office will all contribute.
