Tree recycling location for Northwest Philadelphia announced

Discarded Christmas trees often end up in landfills taking up space. If you “recycle” your tree it gets ground up and used as mulch.

The City of Philadelphia’s Street Department says it will operate three tree drop-off locations starting on Monday, January 3. Residents will have up till January 15 to drop off their trees to be recycled.

Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy residents can drop-off their trees to be recycled at the city’s Northwest drop-off center at Domino Lane and Umbria Street in Roxborough. The center will be open from 8 a.m to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Other drop-off locations include 3033 S. 63rd St. in South Philadelphia and State Road and Ashburner Street in Northeast Philadelphia.

Trees brought to the sites should be untied and free of all decorations. They should not be placed in plastic bags.

Residents who wish to recycle a Christmas tree through curbside collection are out of luck. Trees left at the curb will be considered trash and picked up on regularly scheduled trash days.
