Tough on crime

A federal judge yesterday sent a South Philadelphia drug dealer to prison for 17.5 years. Though 41-year-old William Caraballo pleaded for a lesser sentence, U.S. District Judge Darnell Jones issued a 210-month sentence — two years fewer than the 235-month maximum.

In its detailed report, the Philadelphia Inquirer says the charges indicate Caraballo and his organization put between 15 and 35 kilos of cocaine on the streets of South Philadelphia.

Caraballo said he wants to help improve his neighborhood upon his release, at which time he’ll be nearly 60.
