Torresdale Avenue businesses can makeover facades with help from Tacony CDC
Wanted: Eligible businesses looking for a little TLC and the funds to make that happen.
The Tacony Community Development Corporation launched its Façade Grant Program Friday to help Torresdale Avenue businesses make the most of what they’ve got in terms of storefront appearance.
Business owners on a nine-block stretch of Torresdale Avenue can apply, but must first meet other requirements. Only applications between the 6300- and 7200-blocks of the avenue will be considered, and qualified businesses must be zoned for commercial use and current on city taxes, licenses and registration. Construction costs estimates are a necessary part of the application, and work cannot begin before program approval.
The project is part of the City of Philadelphia Commerce Department Storefront Improvement Program. Property owners can up to 85 percent of their facade improvements covered under the program, and six applicants will receive one-on-one design with the Community Design Collaborative for technical assistance on building improvements.
Applications are due to Commercial Corridor Manager Alex Balloon [alex AT taconycdc.org] by June 25.
