Three top Delaware women leaders honored for their work
An organization for at-risk girls honored three of Delaware’s top women leaders Thursday.
First Lady Carla Markell, Tina Betz, Wilmington Cultural Affairs Director, and Connie Bond Stuart, Regional Director of PNC Bank were honored by Girls Inc. of Delaware as their 2011 Strong, Smart, and Bold awards.
Girls Inc. has been working with at-risk girls for over 50 years. There are currently 1,400 girls aged 6-18 in the program throughout Delaware. Their organization encourages the girls to find a connection in women role models and girls their age. Girls enrolled in their programs are provided with 30 hours of activities a month.
Brenda Algar, Executive Director for Girls Inc. in Delaware, praised the three recipients of the award for what they have contributed to the community.
“Over the years, I have mentored several young girls, and I have seen first hand what a tremendous influence an involved, caring adult can have on a young child,” Mrs. Markell said upon receiving her award.
