Three Northeast libraries to serve as cooling centers during heat wave

With a heat warning in effect starting at noon today, 14 Free Library of Philadelphia branches will serve as cooling centers for residents in need of air conditioning.

In the Northeast, the Frankford, Katharine Drexel and Welsh Road branches will serve as cool spots today and tomorrow. The heat warning is in effect through 6 a.m. Friday.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Katharine Drexel; and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Frankford, and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Welsh Road tomorrow, residents can cool off, read books and use the Internet.

In total, six branches will serve as cooling centers today and nine will do the same tomorrow.
