Thousands remain without power at the Shore

Power companies are making significant progress Saturday morning in the restoration of electricity after strong winds knocked out power to tens of thousands in the Shore region on Friday.

As of 7 a.m. Saturday, slightly more than 5,550 utility companies remain without power in Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, and Cape May counties.

JCP&L serves Monmouth and most of Ocean counties, while Atlantic City Electric powers portions of southern Ocean County, Atlantic, and Cape May counties.

On Friday, winds gusting to around 60 miles per hour interrupted service to numerous customers throughout the region as trees and tree limbs fell onto power lines.

In Atlantic City Electric’s service area, more than 46,000 lost power as of the daytime hours on Friday. By around 6 p.m., that number was down to 22,700, according to a utility press release.

With the current outage number of less than 6,000 as of Saturday morning, crews continue to make substantial progress toward full restoration.
