This weekend with kids in Philly March 15-17

With a name like Riley, I have to begin the weekend post with one of my favorite ways to celebrate St. Patty’s Day…

Saint Patrick’s Day at the Irish CenterIf you missed the parade last weekend, no worries. A day at the Irish Center will hold over until the next time the leprechauns come to town. Enjoy the entire St Patrick’s Day at the Center. The days starts with the traditional Irish celebration of mass being celebrated by Monsignor McCloone at 1 p.m. Throughout the afternoon, there will be traditional Irish and American food at 2 p.m. followed by music with the Vince Gallagher Band and DJ John Shields. There is a $10 cover charge for the music and lunch.Sunday, March 17, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Irish Center, 6815 Emlen Street, Philadelphia, Pa.

Family Fun Hours with Lets Go OutdoorsFamilies are encouraged to come to the arboretum on Saturday to enjoy Family Fun Hours with Lets GO Outdoors. This fun, interactive event gives children the opportunity to engage in outdoor activities and also complete make–’n–take and other winter crafts.Saturday, March 16, at 4 p.m., Awbury Arboretum, $5 fee. Robotics Disrict Competition at Springside Chestnut Hill AcademyEight hundred students from 33 area high schools will go head to head in a competition that combines the intensity of an Olympic event with the excitement of a rock concert. The FIRST Robotics District Competition, for which high school students build life-size robots to compete against one another, consists of teams competing in a Frisbee golf challenge with a diabolical jungle-gym-climbing challenge. Alliances are formed and consist of three teams from different schools. Each alliance gains points by getting as many discs as possible into the opposing goal. The competition ends with the robots attempting to climb up laddered pyramids located in the middle of the playing field.  Saturday, March 16, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. Matches, 1:15—4:15: Final Rounds, 4:30—5:15: Award Ceremony. Vare Field House at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.
