An app for that

New Jersey motorists are now the first in the country to have a cell phone tool alerting them to traffic snarls or construction ahead. According to NJ.com, the free app provides drivers with the same updates they get via 511nj.org, with a notable difference – the “Trumpit” app will deliver audio versions of those alerts on any New Jersey highway so drivers can keep their eyes on the road.

iPhone owners get first crack at the technology, which is slated to be expanded for Blackberry and Android use. Drivers can sign up at 511nj.org or donwload it from the App Store.

The Garden State has taken several steps in easing commuter issues on its roadways. As reported by WHYY’s Meggan Kole, New Jersey will launch a traffic-predictor system next year aimed at helping drivers avoid traffic jams well in advance.
