The toll shebang

It appears part-time toll collectors will keep their jobs on the Atlantic City Expressway.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the South Jersey Transportation Authority reached a tentative agreement yesterday that would reduce the workers’ hourly pay but offer them longer shifts.

Terms were not available.  The authority had threatened to privatize the jobs after revenues on the expressway dropped nearly 4 percent this year because of the recession and the slumping Atlantic City casino industry.

The 89 on-call toll collectors can make as much as $23.50 per hour!
