Chestnut Hill bakeries look festive year-round

The holiday season is reflected on Germantown in many ways. But Christmas-time can be especially fun at bakeries. In the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia, the holiday season can be seen in the pastries and cookies at both Bredenbeck’s Bakery & Ice Cream Parlor and The Night Kitchen Bakery.

Owners Karen Boyd-Rohde of Bredenbeck’s and Amy Beth Edelman of The Night Kitchen dedicate themselves to bringing comfort to the people of Philadelphia through their baked goods. Sharing the same sidewalk, it is not a competitive rivalry between the two bakeries, rather a good-natured relationship. The Night Kitchen Pastry Chef Jenny Low expresses, “If they need pie boxes we’ll loan some to them…if we need sugar they’ll loan it to us.” This should not come across as a surprise, for both of the bakeries strive to bring people into Chestnut Hill.
