Testing an idea: Left-most lane on portion of Market St. to be closed

The City of Philadelphia is looking to make Market Street more pedestrian and cyclist friendly by closing the left-most lane between 15th and 20th streets for the next two weeks.

PlanPhilly reports the decision to close the lane comes from an idea pitched two years ago by the Center City District.

PlanPhilly says each street will have three lanes open to traffic. No parking spots will be lost in the experiment.

Should the test produce positive results, PlanPhilly says the city would then like to see the public get involved to determine what the streetscaping project would look like.
