Testimony in Spicer murder case focuses on driver

As the first full week of testimony begins in the murder case against Derrick Powell all eyes will be on a key prosecution witness and his involvement in the case.

Powell is on trial in Sussex County charged with the murder of Officer Chad Spicer.  He is charged with shooting and killing Spicer in a McDonald’s parking lot on September 1, 2009.  Christopher Reeves was driving the car to what police say was a drug deal gone bad that led to the shooting.

Reeves received a plea deal in which he received probation and a fine for resisting arrest.  Prosecutors told jurors at the start of the trial last week that Reeves was the driver of the Chrysler Sebring and Powell was in the back seat.
