Temple hospital CEO leaving for New Jersey

Temple University Hospital’s CEO is heading to New Jersey.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the university announced Tuesday that John Kastanis is leaving the Philadelphia hospital next year to become the CEO of University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey.

Kastanis took over at Temple on an interim basis in December 2011 and was appointed CEO the following August. The CEO of Temple’s health system, Larry Kaiser, says Kastanis leaves the hospital stronger than it was when he arrived.

He’s leaving on March 1 for Newark. Officials say University Hospital is the primary teaching hospital for Rutgers University’s New Jersey Medical School.
