Tea Party Express plans Delaware spending spree

Delaware Senate Primary continues to draw national attention as major conservative group plans massive advertisement blitz for Christine O’Donnell.

The national Tea Party Express group will spend major money in Delaware over the next two weeks on behalf of Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Christine O’Donnell.  Spokesman for the Tea Party Express Levi Russell tells TheHill.com that the group will spend at least $100,000 to support O’Donnell’s efforts to win the GOP nomination over Congressman Michael Castle.

Castle’s campaign has been relatively quiet.  There have been no debates between the two Republicans.  But the Delaware Republican party leadership, which endorsed Castle, is taking aim at O’Donnell.  Delaware GOP Chairman Tom Ross, saying “Christine continues to avoid the tough questions and  will spin her own reality with the hope that the national press won’t catch on.”

The national press has certainly “caught on” to the campaign, and with just two weeks until the primary, the attention is likely only going to increase.  Democratic candidate Chris Coons is waiting in the wings to take on the winner of the GOP primary.  According to the most recent Rasmussen poll, Castle leads Coons 49% to 37%, while Coons leads O’Donnell by 10 points, 46% to 36%.
