Tax-time errors to avoid and video tips from the IRS

    The deadline to file a tax return is April 17, and the IRS has a few tips on what not to do.

    Death and taxes: no matter how you may try, there’s no getting around them. As the April 17 deadline looms, things get hurried and mistakes get made. The IRS doesn’t want to make things any more difficult than they have to be, so they’ve released a list of eight errors to avoid.

    Incorrect or missing Social Security numbers
    Incorrect or misspelling of dependent’s last name
    Filing status errors
    Math errors
    Computation errors
    Incorrect bank account numbers for direct deposit
    Forgetting to sign and date the return
    Incorrect adjusted gross income
