Tax hike

Pottstown residents will see a 3.1 percent hike on property taxes as part of the preliminary $39.1 million budget.

The tax hike takes into account numbers from 2009, during which time only 91.9 percent of taxes owed to the borough were paid. As of October of this year, only 89 percent of owed taxes had been collected, the Mercury reports.

Taxes owed to the borough from 2006 and 2007 are just now being finalized.
