Superfresh could replace planned Northern Liberties Pathmark

When Pathmark owner Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. filed for bankruptcy late last year, plans to open the supermarket at a new development in Northern Liberties moved ahead, sputtered then seemingly stalled.

But it looks as if the Bart Blatstein development at Second Street and Girard Avenue will get a supermarket after all.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports the still-empty store could soon be a Superfresh. A deal hasn’t been worked out, but Blatstein said in April he’d been in touch with other markets besides Pathmark, and promised a supermarket this summer.
