‘Sunset with the Son’ workshop series kicks off this weekend
Churches and ministries affiliated with the Northwest Christian Alliance (NCA) will be kicking off their August community worship series this weekend in Roxborough’s Gorgas Park.
This is the sixth summer in seven years that the “Sunset with the Son” event has taken place. Each week a different local church or ministry hosts the service and puts its own personal spin to the programming.
The service includes traditional and contemporary music, personal journey stories and brief discussions on important texts from the Bible.
Each one-hour service begins at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided at each event and the group advises all guests to bring lawn chairs.
Here’s the list of dates and host organizations for this month:
Aug. 7 – Pilgrim Church
Aug. 14 – Leverington Presbyterian
Aug. 21 – Salvation Army Roxborough Citadel
Aug. 28 – Ridge Avenue United Methodist
The summer series was started in 2005 as one aspect of a vision that emerged among area pastors and other spiritual leaders who met for weekly prayer and support. The gathering gradually transformed into the NCA. The group’s mission is to foster greater cooperation across denominational and cultural lines.
In addition to the Gorgas Park events, representatives from these churches meet periodically throughout the year for “Community Nights of Praise” at various locations.
In the event of inclement weather, the indoor venue will be Leverington Presbyterian Church, located across Ridge Avenue at the Hermitage Street side of the park.
