Suburban Philadelphia communities receive recycling grants

Montgomery County and two Chester County communities will receive checks for their recycling efforts as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program.

Montco, Phoenixville and Schuylkill all have grant money coming their way.

Phoenixville will receive $151,793 for more than 5,000 tons of recycling in 2008 and 2009; Schuylkill will receive $18,657 for 889.5 tons recycled in 2009; and Montgomery County will receive $28,947 to reimburse 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator’s salary and expenses.

The grants, as the Mercury reports, are an incentive for communities to increase their recycling.
