Subaru looking for new HQ but says it wants to stick around Philly/South Jersey

A fast-growing car company could be moving its headquarters from South Jersey, but the company says it wants to stay in the region. 

Subaru of America has several hundred employees it’s corporate headquarters on Route 70 in Cherry Hill, where it’s been for almost 40 years.   Spokesman Michael McHale says the company is weighing its options.

“Our searches have been over in the near Philadelphia area and then around in the South Jersey area,” said McHale.  “We would not like to move too far from where we are if we move at all because our employees are settled here and it’s a good place to live and work but clearly as our business grows we need to investigate out options a little bit.”

McHale says Subaru has doubled sales in the past five years and can’t fit all its employees into one building at the current headquarters.

Cherry Hill Township spokeswoman Bridget Palmer says no one wants to see Subaru drive off.

“In addition to the jobs that are at stake, it’s an international brand, they are one of the top car manufacturers in the world,” said Palmer.  “Having a name like Subaru, having that company in your town is an attraction to others.”

Palmer says Subaru’s building is worth $6 million and it pays Cherry Hill $440,000 in taxes.
