Cottman Ave. off-ramp from Interstate 95 closing for seven months
A major off-ramp from Interstate 95 in Philadelphia will be shut down for seven months.
PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum says the Cottman Avenue off-ramp from southbound I-95 will be closed through November.
“This is all part of the reconstruction and widening of I-95 through the Cottman Avenue interchange,” Blaum says. “The contractor is reconstructing bridges adjacent to the ramp. Those bridges are going to be a bit wider, so the ramp is going to be moved further to the west and will be totally rebuilt.”
Beginning Tuesday night, the 11,000 drivers who use the off-ramp daily will have to take a detour.
Blaum suggests the Academy Road interchange.
“You’ll bear to the right to the loop ramp that brings you to the intersection of Torresdale Avenue, where a temporary traffic signal has been installed,” he explained. “Motorists will then turn right on Torresdale Avenue and travel two miles to the intersection with Cottman Avenue.”
Detour signs will be in place to help drivers find their way.
