Son: Joe Paterno feared wrongly accusing Sandusky
A son of former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno writes in a new book that his father said he hadn’t informed the coaching staff about allegations Jerry Sandusky might be a child molester because he wasn’t sure whether they were true.
Jay Paterno writes in “Paterno Legacy: Enduring Lessons from the Life and Death of My Father” that Joe Paterno said he didn’t want to accuse somebody of something he didn’t witness or know as fact. He says he had the conversation with his father the day after Joe Paterno was fired.
The book takes a defensive tone toward the famed coach, who lost his job shortly after Sandusky’s arrest in November 2011 and died of liver cancer three months later.
