Somerton man to face trial for wife’s death

It was mid-November when 53-year-old Ashokkumar Guru was arrested in connection with his wife’s murder. Now it’s been decided he’ll face a jury.

Shakuntla Guru, 42, was beaten with a shovel, burned and then choked to death by her husband in their home on the 10800-block of Gifford Street on the morning of Nov. 12, 2009. At the time, there was speculation that the murder was a result of infidelity.

But according to new reports, Ashokkumar Guru confessed that while another man had been making sexual advances on his wife, he was also jealous that she was spending more time with their children, and less with him.

It is believed Shakunthiala Guru fought for more than 10 minutes before succumbing.
