Roxborough shoe shop reopens after cab crashes through front window

Less than 24 hours after a taxi cab crashed into the entrance of Sneaker Town in Roxborough, the shop was back open for business.

Despite the massive piece of wood that covers the former store entrance on Ridge Avenue, owner Joe Son says he’s ready for customers. He spent the morning cleaning up debris inside his shop after a cab driver swerved off of Ridge Avenue and slammed into his sneaker and apparel store on Thursday afternoon.

Philadelphia Police say the cab driver turned left onto Ridge Avenue from Leverington Avenue, hit a 64-year-old male pedestrian and darted into the front entrance of the shop. Son said he had two customers inside the store at the time of the crash, but says no one was injured.  Police say the pedestrian was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition.

Officials in the Philadelphia Police Accident Investigation Unit did not have any new information to provide on Friday about the man driving the cab or the cause of the accident.  Charlie Kline, spokesperson for the 5th Police District said the driver was issued a ticket at the scene of the accident.
