Sixteenth anniversary of the Million Man March comes to Philadelphia this weekend

Friday through Sunday, The Greater Philadelphia Local Organizing Committee will host the 16th anniversary of the 1995 Million Man March at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Doors opened at noon on Friday; meetings started at 2 p.m.

The march will be recognizing what was experienced 16 years ago on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia Weekly reports.

The event will focus on hunger, street violence and political accountability. There will also be discussions about joblessness, incarceration rates, crime and the solutions to those problems. Recent reports that show Pennsylvania’s First Congressional District — which has the second-highest rate of food hardship in the country — will be spotlighted, organizers say.

Those attending on Sunday are asked to brig at least one non-perishable food item as a donation.
