Should Philly build a memorial for Joe Frazier?

Philadelphia has one statue of an imaginary boxer, to the delight of some and the embarrasment of others. Is it time for a statue of a real-life champion boxer? There seems to be sentiment among fans of Smokin’ Joe Frazier that it is.

In Tom MacDonald’s story about the public viewing of Joe Frazier’s body at the Wells Fargo Center Friday, fan Maurell Jenkins said, “Hopefully he can get a statue now. Rocky got one, now Joe Frazier should have a statue.”

Mayor Nutter said he’d like to see a “long-lasting memorial” in Philadelphia.

Wat does that mean? A statue? A plaza? A street named after him? How do you think the boxing legend should be immortalized?
