Service dog helping to improve the lift of Mechanicsburg veteran

A five-year-old English springer spaniel named Tanner is working to improve the life of a Mechanicsburg veteran.

In a story from The Patriot-News, Tanner, who is a medical service dog, is helping veteran Douglas Maugans with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD).

According to the report, Maugans, 54, was diagnosed with PTSD in 2000 when he returned home from serving a year and a half in Bosnia.

Maugans spent nearly three years in a Veteran Affairs hospital before moving to Mechanicsburg in 2009.
