Senate approves debt ceiling bill

    The Senate has voted 74 – 26 to approve the bill to raise the nation’s debt ceiling, the Associated Press reports, sending the Budget Control Act to Obama’s desk for a signature.

    Today is the deadline to raise the debt ceiling to prevent national default. An earlier report from the AP indicated Pa. Sen. Pat Toomey planned to vote down the bill because it doesn’t call for deep enough cuts.
