Second ‘parket’ installed in University City

    It’s that time of year.

A “parklet” is being installed at 44th and Spruce streets in University. West Philly Local snapped a photo of the parket-in-process.
The man-made sidewalk extension is the neighborhood’s second. Parklets look like small porches that extend from sidewalks into two parking spaces and offer pedestrians an extra space to enjoy the sun or shade and kick their feet up.

Earlier this year, the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities took parklet applications from neighborhood groups around the city and offered some of them $5,000 grants to install their own small, temporary parks.
