Seaside staple Maruca’s Tomato Pies to reopen Thursday following boardwalk fire
Just hours after the massive Seaside boardwalk fire destroyed his family’s business — a fixture on the boardwalk for over 60 years — Dominic Maruca vowed to reopen.
With firefighters still actively fighting the blaze, Maruca, whose Maruca’s Tomato Pies was impacted by Superstorm Sandy less than a year before, stood in a parking lot across from his pizza shop, confidently proclaiming that he’ll be back.
“We’ll get it right. It’ll come back. Come back strong,” he said.
That happens Thursday, much to the delight of Maruca’s devotees.
“We are pleased to announce that we will be reopening tomorrow at JR’s Ocean Bar & Grill, located on the Seaside Heights boardwalk at 601 Ocean Terrace,” a posting on the pizza parlor’s Facebook page announced Wednesday. “We will be offering an extended menu that includes our famous tomato pie along with boardwalk favorites such as sausage sandwiches and fresh cut french fries.”
And just like that, Trenton-style pizza — with the sauce swirl on top — returns to the Seaside boardwalk.
