School trip canceled after rumors of poisioning plot

Sounds like the perfect field trip: a lunch cruise and a tour of Citizens Bank Park, mixed in with a little bit of food poisoning.

Sixth graders in the Council Rock School District will have to find someplace else to eat on their field trips to Philadelphia after rumors started swirling that parents planned to sicken the children during their lunch on the Spirit of Philadelphia, and then sue the company that runs the cruise line.

PhillyBurbs reports an anonymous letter to the school district warned officials two parents from Goodnoe Elementary School planned to make the children sick. Naturally, the lunch cruises, scheduled between May and early June, were canceled.

The district and PTO are considering alternative trips, included a lunch-free cruise on the ship.

Editor’s note: This corrects an earlier version of the story, in which it was reported that the trips, not the lunch, was canceled.
