Say good night, Tom
News item: Former Philadelphia mayoral candidate Tom Knox has registered as a Democrat, ruling out an independent run for mayor.
Memo
To: Tom Knox
Subject: Go to your room.
Tom, Tom.
At this point, you’re giving me attention deficit disorder.
In 2010, you said you were running for governor. You hired staff, talked big, then you didn’t run.
As the 2011 mayor’s race approached, you talked about what a disappointment Michael Nutter has been as mayor, and said you’d run if Sam Katz didn’t.
Katz didn’t. You thought about it, said you’d probably run in the Democratic primary.
Then you suddenly announced that not only would you not run, you would support Nutter for reelection.
Then on the last day possible, you changed your registration from Democrat to independent to preserve the option of running for mayor after all.
Now, you’ve trekked to the voter registration office with Nutter and re-registered as a Democrat, ruling out a mayoral run this year.
But you say you will definitely run for governor next year.
At this point, nobody cares. Your credibility meter has hit zero.
The next time you will be taken seriously is when you actually file nomination papers.
(But that doesn’t mean I won’t report the next provocative thing you have to say, so please call me first.)
