Saturday’s the pick of the upcoming weekend

High pressure responsible for the tranquil and comfortable conditions Friday will move offshore early Saturday morning, resulting in more unsettled conditions for the latter half of the upcoming weekend.

If you can only have one day at the beach, Saturday’s the pick.

Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures will rise to around 80 degrees at the coast, according to NOAA. But more humid air will arrive during the day courtesy of a breeze out of the southwest between 8 and 13 miles per hour. There’s a chance of a shower or thunderstorms during the afternoon hours.

During Saturday night and Sunday, scattered thunderstorms are more likely, the National Weather Service advises.

“Some of the thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and hail, particularly on Sunday,” says a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service.

If you’re planning on swimming, the surf will be around one to two feet both days, according to magicseaweed.com. Rip currents can form at anytime, so always swim near a lifeguard.

The ocean temperature is 72.1 degrees in Atlantic City Friday afternoon, according to NOAA. At the northern end of the coast, in Sandy Hook, it’s 77.2 degrees. But it varies from beach to beach.
